The Turkish bath: an age-old ritual

The Turkish bath or steam bath involves enveloping the body in vapour that is both hot (between 40 and 50 degrees Centigrade) and humid (relative humidity 100%). For a steam sauna to be effective, the temperature must be distributed uniformly inside the cabin. Only in this way can all parts of the body derive the same beneficial effects.

The combined action of steam and heat in the Turkish bath stimulates the blood and lymph circulation.
